In the March programme we took a
look at The Autism Bill which is currently going through the parliamentary
process and examining what it will mean for the estimated 500,000 people within
the UK who are on the Autism Spectrum. We also talked to The Sheila McKechnie
Foundation about the awards for budding campaigners. In a new report its
estimated that two thirds of the UK population have no plans to put money aside
to pay for extra care they may need in old age we look at this trend with Kate
Groucutt from Carers UK. February was Scams Month and we talk to Mike Lambourne
from the Office of Fair trading about how you can guard against becoming a
victim. |

very successful equal funding stream has now come to a end although the work
around the ACE priciples carry on. This month a final get together of the key
figures within the ACE partnership and the local partners attended a
celebration of the achievements of ACE over the years. |

In Novembers programme we talked
to David Walden, Director of Strategy for The Commission for Social Care
Inspection about a new report they have just published ' A
fair contract with older people' which highlights a number of concerns
especially for people who are self funding and those who do not come into
contact with their local authority social care departments. We also talked to
Mary Lou Carter about a brand new political party which has been set up in
Australia which focuses on parents of children with disabilities. We also
talked about a brand new book which has just been published about the

and the meeting was chaired by Niall Dickson, Chief Executive Kings Fund.

the 4th international Carers conference which was due to be held in Canada in
June 2007. We
also spoke to The Rt Hon Ruth Dyson the Disability Issues Minister for New
Zealand about the first Carers Strategy and how this can help New Zealand's
Carers. Also Sandra MacDiarmid form ACE Surrey joined us in the studio to tell
us about a new survey of carers which they have just completed, and the on line
surprise they had. We also
speak to Kate Groucut Policy and Public Affairs Officer from Carers UK who
talks to us about the UK's Governments exploration into alternative ways for
Carers to qualify for the Carers Credit.

In the March programme the 'Governments New Deal for Carers' has recently been launched, our
team were there to find out more. We also talked to Sally West from Age
Concern who talks to us about their recently published report 'Counting
the cost of caring' which has highlighted women under 60 found that taking
time out of work to care had affected ability to save for a pension. The
transnational phase of the ACE Partnership is now coming to a close, we look
over the last year or so of the Partnership and find out what has been learnt.
We also hear a very personal story from author Robin Spice who has recently
published a book 'Living
with Dementia - a sons story' about caring for his mother who had dementia.

In Februarys programme we took a look at The Disabled Children (Family Support Bill) which
had its second reading in Parliament on the 23rd February. We speak to Steve
Broach Campaign Manager -Every Disabled Child Matters. For further information

which highlights a lack of support for those people with mental health problems

Carers UK joined us to talk about the Queens Speech on the opening of Parliament. Mike
Atkinson and Jim Coombe went along to a recent City and Guilds conference in
London to learn more about Learning For Living the on line course for Carers.
We talk to Barbara Leonardi from Arco in Italy and Clare Woodford from Carers
UK about a recent study visit to Italy. We also talk to the Chairperson from
TOCC (The Taskforce on Care Costs) which is based in Australia about a recent

In Octobers programme Carers London talk about the launch of the London Carers Manifesto,
Also Jo Bird Joins us from Usdaw, Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied
Workers and tells us about their work around Carers and equalities and about a
major award they have recently won. We also talk to one of the 6 million carers
across the UK. Georgina Wakefield cares for her son and works with a number of
agents to better inform people around the subject of Schizophrenia. Georgina
tells us about caring for her son and her book which has just been published.
We also talked to Age Concern about their new women and pensions Survey. The
aim of the survey is to look at the impact caring had or is having on pensions
or women of different ages.

In
the September edition of ACE Radio we look at Lord Ashley of Stokes Independent
Living Bill which will deliver stronger rights and entitlements to independent
living for disabled people based on the principles of freedom, control, choice
and dignity. We speak to Erica Lewis about the Welsh Women of the Year awards.
We also make a trip to Latvia and speak to the Psycho-Social Medical and
Support System which is one of the European partners about the organisation and a
recent study visit that took place to Latvia.

Carers Rights
Day |
With between 40 - 60% of disability benefits going
unclaimed, and with many carers unaware of how to access practical help,
Carers' Rights Day is designed to make carers more aware of their
entitlements. The event launched at The House of Commons and ACE Radio was
there to cover the event |

Francis MP whose Private Members Bill became The Carers (Equal
Opportunities) Act. ACE Radio also went along to The House of
Commons to the 'Making It Happen launch which was the launch of a
new publication 'Carers and their Rights - the law relating to carers'
which is a resource to support the implementation of the Carers (Equal
Opportunities) Act, we spoke to Luke Clements who is a recognised
authority on community care law and is the author of the guide.
Carers New South Wales (Australia) told us how they are helping Carers in
Australia. We also talked to Carers Scotland about their initiatives
relating to the ACE partnership in the coming year. Plus a special
