New National Carers Strategy On 21st February a new package of support for carers was announced by Ivan Lewis, Minister for Care Services. The New Deal for Carers will include a number of measures such as additional funding for emergency support, a national helpline for carers and an expert carers programme. Gordon Brown also announced there would be the most far-reaching consultation ever on future support for carers, as the 1999 National Strategy for Carers is updated. Now its your chance to have your say. The Government want to engage as many carers as possible and there will be nine regional events held throughout England in September and October each comprising 50 carers. These nine events will be followed by two larger 150-person events (with 100 carers and 50 members of the general public) in November click here for further details.
