The
Carers Emergency Card
|
A new Surrey wide Emergency Card has now been launched for the estimated 100,000 Carers who are in Surrey. The card aims to provide peace of mind for both the Carer and the person who is being cared for, in case of the Carer being involved in an accident or becoming ill while they are away from the person they care for. If an incident does occur a member of the emergency services usually will try and find some sort of identification on the person. |
However the persons identification seldom tells the services that there is someone at home in need of attention. The Emergency Card first of all tells the Emergency Services that the person who they are attending too is a Carer and there is someone at home who also needs help. There is space for two contact numbers on the card of friends, family or neighbours who can be called on to look after the person who is being cared for while the Carer is being helped. Best of all the card is free. This new card has been developed by the Surrey Carers Strategy and Charter groups that operate across the county. A spokes person from the group said ‘ There are a number of these sorts of cards within Surrey and across the UK so its not a new idea. However this Surrey wide card has been developed and backed by the Surrey County Council, Surrey Primary Care Trust, Surrey and Boarders Partnership Trust and local Carers organisations as well as Action for Carers (Surrey)”. If you would like a free Carers Emergency Card you may contact the Surrey County Council Contact Centre on 08456 009 009
If you run an organisation who works with Carers and would like to have a stock of the emergency cards for the people who you come into contact with please contact 01483 519146
