There are a number of events which take place around Surrey for Carers during the year. This area of Carersnet will tell you about the events which you may wish take part in. If you know of any events which may be of interest please let us know about the event by e mailing us with the date time, location, contact name and number and a brief description of the event. we will then put these details on our events page.

UK Events

The Cinema Exhibitors Association Card : A national card scheme has now been launched. The card entitles the holder to one free cinema ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema. To apply for the card a person must meet one or more of the following criteria. Be in receipt of Disability Living Allowance, Be a registered blind person, Hold a disabled person's rail card. Surrey Wide Events

Emotion gyms – new daytime sessions launched - Following the success of their ‘emotion gyms’, First Steps is introducing a series of new daytime sessions.Open to everyone living in Surrey, the sessions last for two hours and cover a range of topics related to emotional well-being. People don’t need to register beforehand - they can just turn up on the day.

Anxiety - Thursday 2 February 2012

Stress at work and at home - Thursday 9 February 2012

All sessions take place from 10am to 12 noon at Park Barn Community Centre, Cabell Road, Guildford, GU2 8JH.

Time for You' Carer Support Group - designed especially for Carers is being held on the first Monday and last Friday each month from 11am till 1pm at The Harry Edwards Healing Sanctuary located in Shere, just outside Guildford, Surrey, set within 30 acres in an area of natural outstanding beauty deep in the Surrey Hills. Time for You’ break can offer

a complete break from caring
a Healing experience (requires pre-booking)
the chance to focus on yourself and your personal wellbeing
a break from the feeling of isolation that many Carers and Supporters experience
time to relax, enjoy the countryside and just enjoy ‘you’ time
an opportunity to spend time with friends: new and old
an opportunity to experience natural therapies (requires pre-booking)
an environment to support your own inner peace and tranquility

Course Fee Discount for Carers - Surrey Adult and Community Learning Centres are offering 50% discount advertised in the new ACL brochure. This fee reduction applies to those Carers in receipt of Carers Allowance. The following centres are taking part: Camberley Centre, Esher Green Centre, Farnham Centre, Guildford Centre, Molesey Centre, Sunbury Centre, Woking Centre. Leatherhead RETHINK Carers Group -The group is all about mutual support. If you are caring for someone in the family with a mental illness, then we believe it can be really helpful to meet up with others in the same boat as yourself.Together you can relax and share your experiences and concerns – confident that you are in the company of people who know where you are coming from.
LRCG meets every other month on a Monday evening. Come along and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome. The group has guest speakers and discussion evenings, and also holds very popular ladies lunches – a pleasant way to get together for a chat.Meetings are held at The Leatherhead Clubhouse, 23 The Crescent, Leatherhead. Time: 8 o’clock – tea and coffee served from 7.45pm.RETHINK is the leading national mental health charity. Mole Valley

Coffee mornings for carers and ex-carers take place on the first Tuesday in the month at Starbucks, Leatherhead from 10am to midday and on the fourth Tuesday in the month at Dorking Halls, Dorking from 10.15am to 11.30am. Carers are welcome to bring the person they care for to these coffee mornings. For further details telephone 01306 640020 or just turn up.

Walking Group for carers on the third Tuesday of the monthTHESE WALKS WILL RESTART AFTER THE WINTER BREAK IN MARCH 2012. Meet for a one and a half hour walk in a different place in Mole Valley each month, finishing with coffee and a chat. The walks are not strenuous and we walk at a leisurely pace.
