One in four people will experience a mental health problem in
their lives. For every one of us that experience a mental health problem it is
reported that at least ten others close to that person will be affected by its
consequences. These include spouses, children, family, friends and workmates. If you are caring for someone with a mental health problem it is important to know that there are many people who may be able to help you. For general enquires about how Surrey County Council can help you may call the the Surrey County Council Contact Centre on 08456 009 009 or alternativitly contact local Social Care office that deal with mental health The local Carers Support Worker(s) in your area may also be able to give you independent advice, advocacy and information. It is also important that you know that you may be eligible for a Carers Needs Assessment. The Mental Capacity Act became law in April 2007. "Making Decisions is a guide for Carers".
