MotoringMotability Motability is a UK national charity. The charity aims to help disabled people and their families (Carers) to have greater mobility. Motability was set up in 1977 and they have been able to provide in excess of 1.28 million vehicles and powered wheelchairs for disabled people. A disabled person may be able to use the Motability Scheme if they receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, or the War Pensioners Mobility Supplement can also be used towards the cost of a vehicle. Children from 3 years and people who do not drive can also apply if they receive the relevant allowances. For further information click here to go to the Motability website Disabled Persons Car Badge Scheme This was commonly know until recently as an orange badge. The badge colour has now changed to blue and can used to access disabled parking both in the UK and Europe. You may qualify for a blue badge if you the person you care for is registered blind or the person receives a war pensioners mobility supplement, or you receive a grant towards you vehicle. You may also be eligible if you have a permanent and substantial disability that makes walking impossible or difficult, or you receive the higher rate of mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance or you use a vehicle supplied by a government department or your disability means that you are unable to turn a steering wheel by hand even if it is fitted with a turning knob. You may apply for a Blue Badge contact the address below, you will then be sent an application form: Once you have completed the form return it with the £2 fee and one passport size photo and any other documents that may be asked for on the form.
